It looks like we are going to have to start taking this with more than a grain of salt. The Malkin to LA rumors have been swirling for months, and now some moron is giving it some national attention. Pierre McGuire got on XM radio to talk about how Malkin doesn't want to play second fiddle to Crosby his whole career and that a trade might not be a bad idea for him. The Columbus Blue Jackets are also reportedly interested in taking some players from the Pens in a trade before free agency starts (the rumor mills are saying Orpik and Malone). As our special guest columnist said last week, and I agree completely, Malone and Orpik can and should be let go (there price tags will be too big and we can find many cheaper replicas), and everything needs to be done to keep Malkin. Of course if Malkin really doesn't want to be on the B-line for the next 10 years, there's not much the Pens can do about it. In an unrelated matter, a local Pittsburgh man was about to be arrested for raping someone when he pointed a gun at himself. Eventually the standoff ended, and the cops got him out of there. He was wearing....you guessed it, a Red Wings championship shirt.

*UPDATE* - After the NHL Awards ceremony, where Malkin didn't win the Hart or Pearson, he said that a contract extension with the Pens is coming soon. He's looking for 5 or 6 years and loves playing here. Great news for us, bad news for Orpik and Malone.
