FILM: So Where Did We Leave Off?

Batman's first big case as the Dark Knight is in the books after he defeated Liam Neeson and saved the city. This time around his suit is a little more hi-tech and he's got a fresh batch of baddies to deal with. The film is supposedly being talked about like a Crime genre classic (Chris Nolan does say that Heat is a major inspiration for Dark Knight). Sgt. Gordon is now Lt. Gordon, but not quite yet Commisioner Gordon. Who are the new players this time around?

THE JOKER (Heath Ledger) - Greatest villain in the entire galaxy of supervillains. Chief baddie with no backstory. He just loves chaos. You've all heard everything and more about Heath's chilling turn as the Joker, so there's not much more to say.

HARVEY DENT (Aaron Eckhart) - The third part of the crime fighting triumvirate (with Lieutenant Gordon and Batman), D.A. Harvey Dent will eventually become Two-Face, and the trailer does show it happening. I haven't seen much of Eckhart's work, so I can't say I'm a fan. I am, however, a huge fan of Two-Face, so he better not screw this up.

RACHEL DAWES (Maggie Gyllenhaal) - Katie Holmes is out, Maggie is in. Same stupid character remains. When has a Batman love interest been any good? Answer: Ra's al Ghul's daughter, and no one else. *UPDATE* - The girl in Mask of the Phantasm was pretty cool, too.

MAYOR of GOTHAM (Nestor Carbonell) - The immortal Richard from L O S T is in this? I had no idea until I glanced over the IMDb cast list. Side note: For you fans of the Tick, Nestor played the character who parodied Batman, Batmanuel.

KINGPIN BOSS SALVATORE MARONI (Eric Roberts) - With Tom Wilkinson and his gangster accent out of play, Boss Maroni is in (in Batman Forever, Boss Maroni throws the acid in Dent's face).

Other notable characters appearing in Dark Knight - Barbara Gordon, Gambol
Other notable actors appearing in Dark Knight - Anthony Michael Hall, William Fichtner
