Since no good movies are coming out this week (although I'm sure my brother will see Madagascar 2 since he owns the original. Also he's 26.), I'm just going to mention a film that has been announced and show a trailer that has been released. First the bad news. Jack Black is going to star in a contemporary adapation of Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels. You all know that the best part of high school Honors English is the glorious NBC/Ted Danson adaptation of the book. That movie finally made you understand what Jerry was talking about when he said that Ted Danson is a somebody. Nonetheless, Black and the director of SHARK TALE (are you feeling better about this?) are going to spin the story so that Lemuel is a free spirited travel writer (not a doctor) who gets caught in the Bermuda Triangle (very original; they really can't think of a better way to get him lost!?!?!?!) and washes up on the shores of Lilliput. No mention of whether not he'll visit Bigtown, Floatingtown, and Horsetown, but it doesn't matter. Jack Black has already ruined this classic.
On a brighter note, Pixar just released the new trailer for Up, and it rules. It tells the story of an old codger clinging to his tiny piece of land while the rest of the world is building up around him. To get away from it all, he unleashes thousands of balloons through the chimney to carry him up into the air. He finally seems at peace, except that a fat boyscout was on the porch during lift out. I assume some crazy adventures develop.
