FILM: What to Watch: X-Files or Step Brothers?

*Posted July 24, 2008*

Hmm, act III in the moronic Will Ferrell/Adam McKay trilogy? Anchorman is massively overrated, and Talledega Nights was one of the worst movies of its year. I don't think I enjoyed any bit of it. Yet here we are with another heapin helpin of immature jokes and improv from Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. On the other hand, the X-Files is back after however long it's been away. I liked the first movie, and the series was fun, but this has Indy 4 written all over it. It probably will also end with a wedding. Your best bet is to skip both and see Dark Knight again....
By the way, why are big films afraid to put numbers next to their sequels these days? Are they afraid that they will remind us how long they've been around (or away), or is it just cooler to have an awesome subtitle? Notice the trend (and do you like it)?

Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (4)
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (3)
The Mummy: the Dragon Emperor thing (4)
X-Files: I want to Believe (2)
Batman Begins/Dark Knight (5 and 6)
Live Free or Die Hard (4)
Terminator: Salvation (4)
Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay (2)
Narnia: Prince Caspian (2)
Harry Potter: Half Blood Prince (5 or 6)
Dr. Doolittle: Tail to the Chief (3 right?)
Stargate: Continuum (2)
WarGames: The Deadcode (?)
Jaws: the Revenge (4)
and so on and so on and so on...
Leave it to Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 to stay cool
